As a food reviewer, I am always excited to explore the hidden treasures of the city, and Punjabi Deli certainly qualifies. Despite its limited standing space, the vibe is warm and welcoming, perfect for a casual meal or a quick takeout.

Overall, my experiences at Punjabi Deli have left me with a deep appreciation for its commitment to authentic flavors and warm service. “ Exceptional vegetarian food at very low prices at this humble Indian/Punjabi deli. They had one of the best gulab jamuns I have ever had (2). Cash only though (Unlikely you will need more than 10 bucks though per person). Strongly recommend. There is limited standing, eating space in the deli but they do allow take out. I got the roti with two veg combo, and got the palak (spinach) and channa (garbanzo beans) curries, both of which were exceptional. Will definitely be back to try their Dal makhani, Dal tadka and other curries (7-8 curries are available at a time). The desserts were also really good with the gulab jamun (great flavor and not too sweet) and carrot halwa standing out. They also have a good amount of snacks like Samosa, pakora, lays, maggi as well. ”
“ This is what New York used to be: absolutely delicious, authentic food from a little hole in the wall spot on Houston and first. Regularly ate here after gigs at Arlene‘s grocery, Mercury Lounge, & CBGB is back in the day. I haven’t played Mercury Lounge in years but took advantage of being nearby and dropped in. To my delight the food was still absolutely delicious and cheap! They had seven hot dishes to choose from, five of which were vegan. They had samosas, pakoras, and other Indian/Pakistani goodies. I definitely recommend this for a quick bite when you’re in the area. There’s no seating but there is a standing counter inside at which you can eat if you want to “eat in.” ”
“ Best place for anyone to taste proper India food (vegetarian). I suggest to try bread pakoda and samosa I did even try their thali(platter) which is very delicious. ”
“ An institution in New York City. Great and affordable, healthy vegetarian food. I've come here many times on a night out in the city. Always satisfying!! ”
“ Friendly service, tasty food with good portions, great prices. I visited twice during my stay in the city. Once I got chana masala and the other time for samosas. Both were great, though the chana did not have much spice. If I lived in the area I'm sure I'd be a frequent visitor. God bless the Sikhs. ”
